I love this pack! It is my second Aarn pack and it is much more comfortable than my other one (Mountain guide (older style)).
I bought this pack for my husband who then made the mistake to allow me to use it on our 8 day Alpine Crossing from Germany to (nearly) Italy. Now he won't get it back. :-)
The pack is super comfortable and fits well even if it is one size fits all for the back length. I have a shorter back and I still have full head movement once it is fully adjusted and if I don't load it all the way up to the top. It was awesome that the lovely lady in store showed me how to do all the adjustments, so I could apply that on the trails.
The front pockets were great for snacks, gloves, beanie, sun gloves, sunscreen, head torch and even the passport during the flight as I used it as check-in luggage. Just make sure you clip all the straps together before you send it through security screening.
I used 2x 0.5 l floppy water flasks in the front mesh holder which worked really well, the rubber bands made sure it stayed inside during some scrambling sections and made it easy to fill up water along the way.
The water bladder apartment is great but you need to put the bladder in when the pack is half loaded, then put in the rest of your gear. That makes it hard to fill up the bladder during a long day walk as you have to take out enough gear to fit the bladder back in unless you want to carry it on the very top of your pack. I think using a bladder with some structure in this pack that keeps it upright might be the better option. The little sling in this pack allows you to hook up the bladder to prevent it from sliding to the bottom.
I ended up buying the extra straps as well as without them it is not possible to carry hiking poles as there is nothing to fasten them to the pack.
The other thing that would be useful is to have a rain cover that fits the pack shape. While the pack can take a shower or two without problems, it cannot withstand a decent downpour, not even for 20 min. I ended up using zip lock bags for the stuff in my front zip pockets as the rain has soaked through these quickly. A generic rain cover over the pack worked ok but given the shape of the wonderful comfortable hip straps, it was not easy to ensure it stayed in place in the wind. It would do well with a rain cover that has some straps around the back to hold it in place just above the hip belt. The rain came in first through the zippers, then through the fabric.
Bought thud pack in 30l and then rapidly changed my mind and went back to swap for the 40. No drama from the shop end! I have taken it on one fastback overnight and it is so light and comfortable I feel like I'm just wearing my running vest. Pockets are all very functional and not annoying. I found the fitting and adjusting to be easy and the clips with cold hands not an issue. I am so excited to use it again!
Bought this as a smaller fastpacking option to my Aarn mountain magic and absolutely love it! Easily got my overnight gear including tent and bedroll in and will be able to fit a few days worth of food in too. Superbly balanced and comfy to carry. Didn't even notice the weight (about 9kg) on my back and fits more like a running vest on the front. Can't wait for more adventures with this!!
I wanted a lightweight but still fully featured and resilient pack for 1-2 night adventures. Couldn’t be happier with the Pace Magic 40. As light as many ‘ultralight’ packs but with a frame, good materials, heaps of pockets and comfortable. Highly recommend 👍
Very pleased with what I received, and the speed it arrived,
It is exactly as described and an awesome product
